Kane Files For Divorce From Husband Of 14 Years

SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - State Attorney General Kathleen Kane, who has already endured a tough year professionally, has filed for divorce after 14 years of marriage, saying her union is irretrievably broken.

The complaint was filed Friday in family court in Lackawanna County, where Kane has lived in Clarks Summit with husband Christopher Kane and their two sons.

"This is a private matter that the attorney general has been enduring," Kane spokeswoman Renee Martin wrote in an email to The Times-Tribune of Scranton. "She asks that the media respect the family's privacy."

Neither Martin nor Kane's divorce lawyer, Lynne Gold-Bikin, returned messages from The Associated Press on Saturday.

Kane has been on a political hot seat for the past several months. Her investigation of a government email porn scandal in the attorney general's office resulted in discipline for dozens of employees and played a big role in the resignation of a state Supreme Court justice.

She also took heat for quashing a probe - later revived by the Philadelphia district attorney - of lawmakers who allegedly took inappropriate gifts. And a grand jury is looking into whether Kane's office violated secrecy laws by improperly disclosing information to the Philadelphia Daily News.

In October, she suffered a concussion in a car accident.

Voters elected Kane, a former county prosecutor, as the state's first female and first Democratic attorney general in 2012. Her husband co-owns his family's trucking and warehousing company.
