Sources: 15-year-old boy killed in Allentown shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A 15-year-old boy is dead after a shooting in Pittsburgh's Allentown neighborhood on Tuesday morning.

Pittsburgh Public Safety said officers found a boy who had been shot in the torso after they were called to Excelsior Street around 10:45 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

Police administered aid until medics arrived and took the boy to the hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead, Public Safety said.

Relatives of the victim told KDKA-TV that the victim was in the area visiting his aunt with some friends when he was shot in the stomach.

The Medical Examiner's Office has identified the boy as 15-year-old Mohamed Hussein.

There's been no word on potential suspects, but sources say police believe there is one shooter involved.

Sources said witnesses told police that they saw a suspect run down Excelsior Street towards Allen Street. That information led detectives to a house on Allen Street, where two males were detained and transported to police headquarters. Police obtained search warrants for the house and a vehicle on Proctor Way.

Pastor Christine Rotella of Community Chaplain Abiding Missions rendered aid to the victim. She said she found him shot in the back outside of the church in an alleyway.

"He was lying face down when I first encountered him, and I could tell he was bleeding from his back," Rotella said. "As far as I could tell, there was one wound on his back. I just tried to apply pressure."

"He wasn't conscious," she added. "He opened his eyes very briefly and closed them."

Sources say Hussein was involved in the Braddock shooting where Woodland Hills students Nazir Parker and Rimel Williamson were shot to death on Aug. 27.

The violent crime unit is investigating.
