Johnny Rockets Coming To Kennywood, Other Changes Ahead For New Season

WEST MIFFLIN (KDKA) -- Kennywood opens May 3, and you'll notice some changes this year, including one that could save you money.

For the first time in years, the park will have a sit down restaurant. Johnny Rockets will move into the historic carousel building.

It'll open in early June.

The chain is known for burgers, fries and its entertaining wait staff.

"Every 30 minutes or so, the servers take a break. They all come out into the center area, and they do a song and dance to entertain the guests," said Jeff Filicko, public relations manager at Kennywood.

The Auto Race ride, which was built in 1926 is getting new wood and electrical components to keep it going; though, riders won't really notice anything different.

However, Kennywood fans will notice a difference at the beloved Potato Patch. Filicko assured us that the recipe for the fries will not change, but how you get them will.

"We're going to have ordering stations up here in front, so you'll be able to step up, order and then step up beyond that to pick up your food right after that," said Filicko.

He said it's a move to try to speed things up.

Finally, new this year, to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Kennywood arrow, some people have already gotten arrow admission coupons in the mail.

On the back is a coupon that you can rip off. It allows you to buy one admission ticket and get another admission totally free on specific dates.

If you didn't get one in the mail, you can check out Kennywood's Facebook page and website to see when events will be held where you can get a BOGO coupon.
