Senate President Joe Scarnati Will Not Seek Re-Election

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati told The Associated Press on Wednesday night that he will not seek re-election.

Scarnati, 58, is a fifth-term Republican senator from northern Pennsylvania.

Scarnati said he wrestled with the decision but said he thought it was the right time. It's personal, not political, he said. He's been senate president since 2007.

He will remain in his role until the legislative term ends Nov. 30.

"It's good to go out and go out on top," he said.
