Jitney Driver Arrested For DUI With 5 Passengers In Vehicle

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A jitney driver, allegedly under the influence, led police on a brief chase Downtown Sunday night with passengers in the vehicle.

According to police, the incident happened around 8:53 p.m.

The driver, James Bailey, 52, of Penn Hills,  allegedly refused to pull over after driving his 1996 Toyota 4Runner the wrong way down Grant Street with his lights off.

There were two women and three children, ages 6, 4 and 3 months, in the vehicle at the time of the incident. The women told police they were pleading with Bailey to stop, but he refused.

Eventually, the driver pulled over and was arrested.

"We discovered a number of empty beer cans in a cooler with other beer cans in the car so they had reason to be concerned," Pittsburgh Police Spokeswoman Sonya Toler said.

Bailey was also driving on a suspended license for another DUI.

He is currently being lodged in the Allegheny County Jail.
