Jeff Branson: Every AB Is A Team At-Bat
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Pirates hitting coach Jeff Branson joined Bob Pompeani on Saturday, and talked about the team's hitting heating up during the recent seven-game winning streak.
"We've kind of got the mindset right now, our hitters as of late, that every AB is a team at-bat, trying to get in good hitting counts, being stubborn at the plate with our game plan, and figuring out a way to beat the starter," Branson said.
Pompeani asked about the Pirates approach to countering infield shifts.
"It's being a complete hitter, being able to take the pitch and do what we want to with it in a spot that we want it, and it all goes back to backing the ball up in the zone and the more you can spray the ball around, the more that the shift is not going to come into play," Branson said.
