Jameson Hospital To No Longer Deliver Babies

NEW CASTLE (AP) - A Lawrence County hospital will no longer be accepting maternity care center patients due to what officials say is a lack of adequate staffing.

New Castle's Jameson Hospital will no longer be delivering babies past midnight Wednesday.

Officials say patients expecting to go through childbirth between Aug. 20 and Aug. 31 were contacted to make alternative arrangements with nearby hospitals.

The hospital announced in July that the center would remain open until Sept. 1.

Jameson agreed to join the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center network in February, but the deal was never finalized.

Officials say a delay in obtaining approval from the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office to affiliate with UPMC has caused a financial burden that led to the decision to no longer deliver babies.
