IUP Students Charged After Rear-Ending Police Car

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Two Indiana University of Pennsylvania students were arrested after rear-ending a police car while drunk.

Indiana Borough police say two students, 20-year-old John Birkman and 19-year-old Michael Newman, were arrested around 2:45 a.m.

Police say the two students rear-ended a police car along Philadelphia Street, injuring the two officers inside the car.

Both officers were taken to the hospital and later released with minor injuries.

Birkman and Newman were both charged with underage drinking, in addition to other charges.

Officials say the students could also face punishment from the school, if found guilty on the charges.
