State Police: Tractor Trailer Carrying Propane Tanks Explodes On I-70

SMITHTON (KDKA) -- Interstate 70 in Westmoreland County is now reopened after a crash and explosion involving a tractor trailer.

According to state police, the tractor trailer was carrying propane tanks that exploded.

It happened around 11 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-70.

According to PennDOT's 511PA Twitter page, the highway had to be complete closed down between Exit 49 in Smithton and Exit 53 in Yukon to be cleaned up.

State police say no injuries were reported.

Just before 3 p.m., state police say they cleared the scene and reopened the roadway. However, delays and slow-moving traffic were expected in the area for some time.
