Insult To In-Jury: Someone Steals $600 From Jurors

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Jury duty can be unpleasant enough, but someone has added insult to in-jury.

The Allegheny County sheriff is investigating after someone stole $600 from several jurors who were busy in a Pittsburgh courtroom.

The jury was listening to closing arguments in a criminal case Tuesday when someone went into the jury room and rifled through the purses of nine female jurors, stealing the money.

No credit cards, cellphones or other items were stolen.

Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus says, "For somebody to walk into a jury room in a populated courthouse, on the surface it's brazen for somebody to do."

Investigators are hoping surveillance video will lead them to the thief.
