ARMSTRONG TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A man was killed in an early morning head-on crash in Indiana County.

It happened just before 4 a.m.

The crash shut down Route 422 from Parkwood Road to Trim Tree Road for hours. The road reopened around 12:45 p.m.

According to state police, a 26-year-old Altoona woman was driving her Ford E-350 westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lane and hit a Ford Fiesta head-on.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta, 55-year-old Douglas Chris Craig, of South Bend Township in Armstrong County, was trapped in his vehicle. Indiana Fire Association firefighters extricated Craig from the vehicle, but he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Craig was not wearing a seat belt.

The Indiana County coroner's office says Craig was an organ donor.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
