According to state police in Belle Vernon, shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, 59-year-old Gerald Quattro of Monessen skidded on the icy road and came to a stop near the guardrail in the right-hand lane. He then tried to move into the left-hand lane and was struck by 59-year-old Ralph Sampson of Wheeling.

Police say Quattro's car spun around and came to a rest in the middle of both lanes, while Sampson's car hit the guardrail and went over the hillside. Sampson's car had a trailer attached to it, and the trailer was sticking out into both lanes of traffic.
