Fire at Horne's Auto Service in Washington County leaves behind massive damage

Washington County business destroyed by fire

Fire destroyed Horne's Auto Service in Cecil Township on Thursday.

The fire broke out around 5:30 a.m. at the long-time Washington County business along Route 980. Once firefighters got to the scene, the building was fully engulfed, and the flames spread to the residence attached to the garage.

The owner of the garage, Jimmy Horne, his wife, Cathleen, and one other person were inside when the fire broke out. However, they escaped to safety.

Firefighters on the scene said that the flames were burning so hot that they melted the siding on nearby buildings.

"It was just so huge, and thank God my neighbors got out of the house," neighbor Faye Abbondanza said.

Officials said there were no injuries, though several cats remain unaccounted for. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the structure is believed to be a total loss.
