Crews Battle Fire At Horace Mann School

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Firefighters were on the scene of a fire at the old Horace Mann School on Shadeland Avenue.

Shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Thursday night, members of Pittsburgh's Fireworks Taskforce warned a group of people who had been shooting off fireworks from the baseball field near the school to stop and that they needed to clean up the debris.

Just after 11:30 p.m., calls came in that the abandoned school was discovered to have caught fire.

Firefighters spent several hours on scene batting the 2-alarm blaze and it's believed that the fire caused an estimated $50,000 to $60,000 in damage.

Smoke could be seen billowing out of the roof of the building.

The fire is being investigated.
