Man Dead After Hill District Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police are investigating a homicide that happened Friday morning.

The coroner's office says, 72-year-old Sam Gantt was shot in the head and right shoulder at a home in the 2000 block of Centre Avenue.

It happened just after 10:00 a.m.

Police say they were called to perform a welfare check when they found the man dead on the floor of his apartment.

It was first believed the victim died of natural causes, but the medical examiner ruled his death a homicide prompting a police investigation.

There is no word on any suspects or a motive at this time.
