Child Hit By Stray Bullet In Hill District, Taken To Hospital

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A child is in the hospital after being struck by a stray bullet in the Hill District Wednesday night.

The incident happened just after 9 p.m. in the 2400-block of Chauncey Drive at the Bedford Dwellings complex.

The 6-year-old child was taken to UPMC Children's Hospital after police say he was shot in the left hand.

He was playing outside the Bedford Dwellings apartment complex when he was struck by a stray bullet. He was about a block away from where the gunfire occurred.

When questioned by police, several neighbors said they heard four or five shots, but they were unable to describe any suspects.

Police say the boy is listed in good condition at the hospital.

Investigators are looking for suspects and eyewitnesses.

Just last week, a 2-year-old boy was shot and killed at the Allegheny Dwellings apartments on Sandusky Court on the North Side.

The child's 30-year-old stepfather was charged with criminal homicide in that case.
