Hershey: New Wrappers Will Save Nearly 2,000 Trees

HERSHEY, Pa. (AP) - The Hershey Co. says it is saving a small forest each year with its new packaging design for Hershey's Miniatures.

LancasterOnline.com said Monday that the new packaging is hitting retail shelves this week.

The wrappers have bolder graphic designs on the well-known miniature bars of Hershey's Milk Chocolate and Special Dark, Krackel and Mr. Goodbar. But they're also 0.050 grams lighter than the old wrappers.

That sounds minuscule but Hershey spokeswoman Laura Renaud said it will equate to 271,800 pounds of wrappers saved over the course of a year - enough paper to fill 11 tractor trailers. Renaud said that amounts to nearly 2,000 trees.
