Hazmat crews respond to U.S. Steel Tower

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Hazmat crews responded Wednesday to the U.S. Steel Tower for a leak.

Pittsburgh Public Safety said crews responded around 7 p.m. for reports of a "caustic liquid" leaking from the building.

"The leak occurred in a column of the building that is filled with fire protection fluid, after a contractor performing work on the building drilled a hole," Pittsburgh Public Safety said.

Pittsburgh Public Safety said the leak has been "slowed" but has not been stopped "due to pressure within the vessel."

Officials added that three people, including two police officers, were treated for minor exposures.

There is no threat to the public at this time.
