Hays Eagle Lays A Third Egg

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There's another egg in the Hays bald eagle nest!

Viewers of the Hays bald eagle cam noticed a third egg in the nest Saturday afternoon. The first egg was spotted early in the morning last Saturday, and wildlife officials said the second egg was laid around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania confirms the third egg appeared around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Rachel Handel, Communications Director for the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, said that the first egg was laid on one of the coldest days of the year, and the third egg was laid on one of the warmest.

Two years ago, three eaglets fledged in the Hays nest, but last year, neither egg hatched.

After the second egg appeared, Western Pennsylvania Audubon Society education director Chris Kubiak said he wouldn't be surprised if the eagles laid a third egg.
