Calera Street Flooded After Water Main Break Closes Part Of Baldwin Road In Hays
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A major water main break caused major flooding early Tuesday morning in the city's Hays section.
Water was first seen coming from the hillside below Churchview Avenue and spilling across Baldwin Road, then down onto Calera Street around 5 a.m.
According to Pennsylvania American Water, the water main break occurred in a 12-inch main along Baldwin Road, between State Route 885 and Comer Road.
The break disrupted service to approximately 12 customers.
Residents reported up to three or four feet of water in their basements.
Neighbor Katie Chandler woke up to a waterfall outside her home. It turned her backyard into a muddy mess and damaged her home.
"Woke up. Fire, police everywhere. Water running down into my basement, almost up to my dining room," she said.

Chandler has lived in the neighborhood for 13 years and never had this issue before.

Penn American Water's disaster restoration team is working with 10 homes that are in need of repair as a result of the event.
Restoration of normal water service is expected sometime Tuesday evening.
Baldwin Road won't reopen to traffic until Friday afternoon, Penn American Water officials say.
