Harsh Winter Weather Taking A Toll On Local Businesses

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The bitter cold has put a pinch on some businesses, and Saturday's snow has them wondering how many people will venture out.

But that's not the case at Saint Sebastian in Ross Township.

They expected a smaller crowd than normal for their fish fry because of the weather. But not so. They were packed.

"We thought we were going to be very slow because of the weather, but we're actually breading more fish. And we're almost through our 90 pounds of shredded potatoes," said Lynn Suto, one of the volunteers.

But they do think the weather is responsible for a lot more take-out orders than normal.

At Anthony's Barber Shop just down the hill "it's been a lot slower this week because of the weather," said Emily Dilts.

And with snow predicted Saturday, "I'm predicting a slow day," said Dilts.

It was a slow Friday night at Wright's Gym in Crafton.

"Our business is off just a little bit," said Rick Buker.

Finally, at LeMont Restaurant on Mount Washington, there's a great view of the frozen rivers, which Jim and Mary Lou Southwood were taking it in a few days late.

"We had planned to be here Wednesday night to celebrate our 20th anniversary, but unfortunately, the weather didn't really cooperate.

"It was snowing like crazy!" said Jim Southwood.

The restaurant is waiting to see if people change their plans with Saturday's snow.

"We're going to be looking at that constantly for the next 24 hours and see how that goes," said John Phillips.

Though he says so far they haven't been too affected for the recent harsh weather.
