Harrison Undergoes Thumb Surgery, Out For 7 Weeks

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The thumb injury suffered by the Pirates' Josh Harrison is slightly worse than first expected.

On Wednesday, the team says Harrison had surgery performed by Dr. Thomas Graham on his left thumb after an awkward slide into second base.

The typical time needed before a return is seven weeks.

Harrison tore a ligament in that thumb, so don't look for him until late August.

Also, pitcher Jameson Taillon underwent hernia surgery Wednesday.

The typical recovery time for something like that is approximately two months.

Taillon has been rehabbing from Tommy John surgery performed last year.
