HARRISON TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A pedestrian was struck by a train and killed in Harrison Township on Wednesday evening.

It happened just after 7:30 p.m. on the train tracks near the intersection of Mile Lock Lane and Sixth Avenue.

Allegheny County officials say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

"What they've been able to determine is the, preliminarily, it looks like the young lady was walking along the tracks and did not recognize there was a train coming even though they were using other emergency equipment to alert her and [the train] struck her," Allegheny County Police Lt. Andrew Schurman said.
