Hard Rock Cafe Hosting Rock 'N' Roll Auction

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Thursday afternoon, workers at the Hard Rock Cafe in Station Square prepared to honor performers Lou Christie and Donnie Iris, and the late great DJ, Porky Chedwick, at Pittsburgh "Rock 'n' Roll Legends."

Rebecca Whitlinger and a team of volunteers set up more than 50 items of autographed memorabilia for auction.

Funds raised by the event and auction will benefit the Pittsburgh-based Cancer Caring Center.

"The auction features some wonderful, beautifully framed albums and sports collectibles," says Whitlinger, executive director of the Center. "But really, the night is about rock. So certainly, we've got everything from Bruce Springsteen to, well, Tony Bennett. He's rock-esque."

This is the second year for the Rock n' Roll Legends induction. Committee members are not afraid to approach visiting bands, with albums in hand. One cover includes signatures from all five members of Fleetwood Mac. A signed Bruce Springsteen album topped $1,000, before the evening's festivities even began.

Pittsburgh was, and still is, a rock n' roll haven.

"We're really proud to say that Pittsburgh has wonderful music," Rebecca Whitlinger says. "And we want to recognize and honor that."
