Greene Co. Teen Killed In Graysville Crash

GRAYSVILLE (KDKA) -- A teenager has died following an accident Tuesday morning in Greene County.

18-year-old Jesse Benson was pronounced dead just after 9:20 a.m. He was a senior at West Greene High School and just six-months from graduating.

The two-vehicle crash happened just before 8 a.m. along Grange Road in Graysville.

Police say he was trying to pass traffic, and driving at a high rate of speed on his way to school when the accident happened.

Benson's Ford Ranger pickup truck clipped a drilling truck, sending it off the road, flipping, and ejecting Benson.

West Greene Middle and High School has about 400 students total, so it's really hit the school and faculty hard.

"It's a very sad sad thing for everybody, it's just been really hard on everybody," West Greene Superintendent Thelma Szarell said.

Some of Benson's classmates are volunteer firefighters and actually got the page when the accident happened.

Superintendent Szarrell describes Benson as having good manners, and being very polite.

He was involved in the 4-H club.

Counselors were on hand at the school today, and district will work to figure out what the staff and students will need throughout the rest of the week.
