Girl Shocked In Backyard Pool In Critical Condition

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a girl was critically injured when she and seven other children were shocked in a backyard pool in central Pennsylvania.

Police in Cumberland County were called to the Silver Spring Township home shortly after 6:30 p.m. Sunday and found an 8-year-old girl outside the pool in cardiac arrest.

Sgt. Jared Huff told PennLive.com that a firefighter managed to revive the girl's heart with a defibrillator. Huff said she was flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where she remained in intensive care Monday morning.

He said the other children were shocked but didn't require medical attention.

Huff said a child outside the pool flipped a switch to turn on a light inside the pool, and officials believe there was some kind of electrical malfunction.
