As Coronavirus Spreads, Giant Eagle Installing Plastic Dividers, Halts Use Of Reusable Bags
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Giant Eagle is taking new steps in the name of safety as the coronavirus spreads across the state.
The company announced on Monday that it will be installing plastic dividers at checkout and customer service areas at Giant Eagle, Market District, pharmacy, and GetGo locations.
The company is also asking customers to refrain from bringing reusable bags in the store and installing floor indicators and signs at checkout lanes that indicate the appropriate social distancing.
A Giant Eagle spokesperson says the majority of the stores will have the new features by the end of the week.
"That's most commonly where you push your cart up and start interacting with our team member, said spokesperson Jannah Jablonowski."I think putting that divide right there was the most effective way."
Shoppers KDKA talked to feel reassured.
"It makes me feel safer sure," said Karen Schollaert of O'Hara Township. "The less contact we have with the public the better."
Giant Eagle is also temporarily pausing its fuelperks+ "one perk per reusable bag used" promotion.
