Get Marty: Man Gets $370 Ticket For Parking On County Grass
ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Allegheny County leaders are taking a close look at County Police ticketing practices following a "Get Marty" investigation.
Mark Ferrelli reached out to KDKA's Marty Griffin after he got a $370 ticket for parking on the grass at the North Park Boathouse on Mother's Day.
"I looked around, there are so signs," Ferrelli told the officer who wrote the ticket.
As it turns out, that's part of the problem.
Our investigation found no signs at all where Ferrelli was ticketed, and the closest "No Parking on the Grass" sign more than a half mile away.
Allegheny County Police Superintendent Charlie Moffatt said there is a no parking on the grass ordinance.
Moffatt also says the maximum fine of up to $300 is up to the discretion of the officer.
"It's a violation for people to park on the grass in the parks," says Moffatt.
Meanwhile, Ferrelli says he will not pay the fine and will appeal the ticket.
County leaders say they are concerned about the high cost of the ticket and the signage. They also say they may have to request the parking ordinance be changed.
