Gas Well Fire Out After Burning For Nearly A Week

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The fire at a natural gas well in Greene County, that has been burning for nearly a week, is finally out.

A spokesperson for Chevron says the fire burned out Saturday afternoon.

An explosion at the well on Tuesday started the fire.

One worker is missing and presumed dead, another was seriously injured.

A crane burned in the blaze and subjected to high heat is what continued to ignite the fire on the 7H well, officials said. They said Saturday morning that they planned to remove it from the well pad.

The DEP also gave Chevron permission to use more than 1 million gallons of water to help put out the blaze.

The well is one of nearly 650 natural gas wells in Greene County.
