Friends & Family Mourn Loss Of Woman Killed While Walking Dogs

ALEPPO (KDKA) - Friends and family continue to mourn the loss of a woman who was hit and killed by a vehicle while walking her dogs.

Kimberly Moran, 49, was walking her two Bernese mountain dogs around 8 a.m. Saturday, when a car hit a patch of ice and hit her and one of the dogs.

The other dog, Illini, ran away. Many members of the community searched for the dog, which was eventually found near the Alleppo Township Municipal Building.

"I went up to her and she growled a little bit at me. I asked her if she wanted some food because I had some treats in my hand and I think she liked that idea," Annamarie Toploski said.

The dogs are back with Moran's husband, Jeff.

Jeff Moran said the dogs will help his healing along with his wish that the driver will realize this wasn't their fault.

He said it's difficult to put into words what it means that so many people made it their mission to bring Illini back home.

He says simply that it meant a lot.

Everyone knew Kim's love for her animals. She also worked as a groomer at Larry's Laundromutt. The business closed on Saturday to help search for Illini.

Friends say Moran and her husband didn't have children and that these dogs filled that role.

"These were her children and she was just a dear dear person," said Meg Forsyth. "She was gracious and she never said anything bad about anybody."
