Friends & Family Honor Victim Of Fatal Tattoo Parlor Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The death of a tattoo shop owner Kevin Croney in New Kensington has touched many people in the area.

This weekend, many of those people went to the shop Croney owned in support of his family.

Nearly 200 people packed the True Image Tattoo studio in New Kensington Sunday evening.

"We are here to bring the light to the darkness that we have all known too well and too long," Cronery's brother-in-law, Ben Fye, said.

Croney's widow was there with her three children. She told the supporters she refuses to be angry.

"Anger is why I am standing here today. Hate leads to anger and anger leads to violence and violence took the life of an amazing man, a devoted father and a loving son," Cheri Croney said.

Croney was shot at the shop along Freeport Street last week. Friends and family lit candles outside the shop to show he won't be forgotten and the shop will stay open.

"It supports a lot of families, and it was Kevin's baby and they just put a lot of money and work into it and so we are going to keep it going and you know -- not let him down," Luke Romaniw said.

Cheri said she is establishing a scholarship in Kevin's name for students at Kiski Area High School, who have similar interests as Kevin.

"My husband went to school for photography, and I want to do something, a scholarship for photography or arts, graphic design, fine arts, anything art to keep his name out there and keep his memory alive," she said.

Croney said she will never forget the people who showed up to support their family in its time of sadness.

"It's amazing. My husband was loved by so many and it means the world that they showed up tonight to honor him at his shop," Cheri said.
