Former Pitt Quarterback Looks Forward To Return To Heinz Field

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- A former Pitt Panthers' quarterback is coming back to Heinz Field.

Tom Savage, a rookie for the Houston Texans, is returning to his college stomping grounds for the Monday Night Football match-up against the Steelers.

Though Savage played only one season at Pitt, he threw for 2,958 passing yards and 21 touchdowns, which ranks fifth on the team's single-season list.

Savage told 93-7 The Fan's Starkey and Mueller Show about Pitt's 2014 football team, saying, "I'm their number one fan out here. I'm cheering them on and I'm bragging to all my teammates."

When speaking of the recent Pitt versus Virginia Tech game, Savage said, "I was pretty proud of the guys for getting that win."

For the upcoming match-up with the Steelers, it is unlikely that Savage will see the field being that he is the Texans' third-string quarterback.

"I'm learning as much as I can and preparing like I'm a starter," he said.

Even with the odds against him, Savage is still looking toward the Steelers' defense.

"It's the Steelers' defense. It is what it is. You got [Dick LeBeau], he's been around the game for a really long time and he's a great coach," Savage said. "They're a very physical defense and I know we're looking forward to playing. It's going to be a fun game."

Savage's biggest challenge at this point in his career may be outsmarting Texans starting quarterback and Harvard graduate, Ryan Fitzpatrick.

"He's a brilliant guy," Savage said of Fitzpatrick. "I can't even pick on him. He says jokes that go way over my head. I don't even know what he's saying sometimes."
