Former Pirates First Baseman Gaby Sanchez Signs With Japanese Team

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - After being non-tendered by the Pirates last month, former first baseman Gaby Sanchez has found a new team ... in Japan.

Sanchez has signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan.

Sanchez hit just .229 with seven home runs and 33 RBI in 123 games played while splitting time with Ike Davis.

With the team turning to Pedro Alvarez as their new first baseman and then going out and signing free-agent Corey Hart to play first as well, there was no need for Sanchez on the Pirates roster.

Sanchez is a career .254 hitter with 61 home runs and 266 RBI.
