Former Pirates Closer Joel Hanrahan To Undergo Second Tommy John Surgery

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The high point of reliever Joel Hanrahan's career came when pitching for the Pirates, which he did from 2009 to 2012.

In 2011 and 2012, Hanrahan was an All-Star closer racking up 40 saves in 2011 with an ERA of 1.83 and 36 saves in 2012 with an ERA of 2.72.

Since those years though, Hanrahan has been unable to keep that momentum going as he was sidelined with Tommy John surgery in 2013, and is now undergoing a second Tommy John surgery according to CBS Detroit and the Detroit Tigers.

The Tigers have also announced that they've released Hanrahan.
