PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The man killed in a small plane crash Tuesday in Washington County was also a world renowned figure skater.

He was most recently coaching at the RMU Island Ice Complex.

Previously, he was director of skating at the Southpointe Iceoplex.

It was common for Novodran to travel across the country and around the world to participate in seminars and coach elite skaters.

Novodran was also an accomplished pilot.

He was practicing takeoffs and landings yesterday, when something went wrong and he crashed.

He was rushed to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where he later died.

News of his death is still spreading to students and fellow coaches at the ice complex.

He is survived by a wife and daughter.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
