Former Hockey Coach Arrested With Drugs Accepts Plea Deal

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A former assistant youth hockey coach in Bethel Park accepted a plea deal in court this morning in connection with drug charges.

Kenneth Lehmann, 26, took the plea offer from the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office for six months of probation.

According to Lehmann's lawyer, he is also trying to get counseling at an in-patient rehabilitation facility.

Lehmann was arrested by Port Authority Police at the Park-n-Ride in Sheraden back in January. Police say he had a syringe and 20 bags of heroin with him at the time of his arrest.

He was fired from his job as an assistant coach for the varsity hockey team in Bethel Park.

"He has a tremendous amount of support from the kids, from parents of the children, everybody involved with them. They all know he's a good man that just got caught up in this trap of addiction," said Pat Thomassey, Lehmann's lawyer.

The KDKA Investigators confirmed in January that Lehmann has an extensive criminal past, including felonies for robbery and forgery, as well as charges for writing bad checks, and use and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Bethel Park hockey team is a club sport and has no direct affiliation with the school district.

Lehmann remains in jail on a probation charge.
