Man Arrested For Robbing Convenience Store Where He Previously Worked

SHARPSBURG (KDKA) -- Police have arrested a former employee of a Sharpsburg convenience store in connection to a robbery that took place there early Thursday morning.

The robbery took place around 4 a.m. at the Circle K convenience store on Main Street.

According to police, a white male entered the store, pointed a gun at the employees and got away with an ATM cash box containing $7,000. He was dressed in black clothing and wearing rubber gloves at the time of the robbery.

Police say after speaking with witnesses, 28-year-old Shawn Bates, a former employee of the Circle K, was believed to be the suspect.

Police apprehended Bates a short time after the robbery. Bates was found to be in possession of the stolen money.

Bates is facing charges of robbery, receiving stolen property, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He is in the Allegheny County Jail on $50 thousand bond.
