PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A former Deputy Chief with the Pittsburgh Police was found dead in Baldwin Monday.

The Medical Examiner confirms that Earl Woodyard was found dead in his home.

It's unclear how he died.

Pittsburgh Police Chief Cameron McLay did offer a statement Monday, saying:

"On behalf of the entire Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, I extend condolences to the family of retired Chief Earl Woodyard, Jr. He had a long and fruitful career as a public servant with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. He was neighborhood focused and was known for being strict but fair. His contributions to this bureau and the City of Pittsburgh will not be forgotten."
