Foote: I Assume That Everybody Uses Marijuana
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan)- Ryan Clark went on ESPN's "First Take" to comment about marijuana use in the NFL -- ruffling some feathers in the process.
Clark stated that some of his teammates smoke marijuana. Bob Pompeani asked Steelers linebacker Larry Foote if he was surprised by Clark's comments.
"I don't know if he knows it, he's seen it, or specifically who does it, but I'm just assuming that everybody does," Foote said. But Foote added that he hasn't actually seen anybody use it.
Foote told Pompeani that he's scared of using pills for pain management, and that he would understand why players would use marijuana for that reason.
"You hear all the stories about guys getting addicted to the painkillers and the pills," Foote said. "If that's a true reason why they want to smoke, I can understand that. Hopefully they can have an option to do the weed or to take the pills. But for the most part, guys do it recreational(ly)."
Foote said that the league doesn't try to deter use, because players know when the test is going to be administered.
"I've seen, just growing up what marijuana, how young kids get addicted to it and abuse it," Foote said. He added, "The headlines saying the NFL might just drop testing for it, I'm against that because it sends the wrong message to the young kids."
