Flurry Of Changes Coming As McKnight Rd. Corridor "Reinvents Itself"

ROSS TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- The public would never know it by looking at the property on Blazier Drive, which sits unchanged, but there's been movement on the new Walmart in McCandless.

Neighbors filed a lawsuit, taking issue with the process McCandless put Walmart through. They lost in Common Pleas Court.

Now, on appeal, a Commonwealth Court ruling says: "We discern no error in Council's approval of Walmart's SP and LDP. Accordingly, we affirm the trial court's order denying Objectors' appeal."

The attorney for the residents says they're considering their options. And there's been no comment from Walmart on whether it will push ahead with construction.

Meanwhile, in Ross Township, Walmart still owns the Old Sam's Club property.

"No movement on that. The Walmart Corp. owns it, but there has been no development talk for that parcel," said Doug Sample, Ross Township manager.

But there has been plenty of movement around it; starting with a renovation of the old McCrackin Ford facility, which is sporting a new sign that says, "DriveTime."

"Which is a national, upscale used car dealership," Sample says.

Look for it to open in April. Next door, construction is expected to start next week on a new Verizon store with a lot more parking than their current home across the street.

Further up McKnight, Baierl has moved its Kia dealership north to Wexford, and in its place, just south of Bed, Bath and Beyond there's more development.

"We're going to get a stand-alone Chik-Fil-A, and also, First National Bank is going to build a branch there," Sample said.

The bank will locate to where the Kia building is today, and Chik-Fil-A will move to its right, adjacent to the Toyota dealership.

"They want to start those in early summer, and hopefully be open by fall," said Sample.
