Flash Flooding Leads To House Explosion In Central Pennsylvania
CLEARFIELD, Pa. (AP) - A storm that dumped five inches of rain on a central Pennsylvania town caused flash floods and a house explosion that hurt four people.
Emergency officials in Clearfield say the Thursday evening storms flooded some homes and basements, including the home where the explosion occurred.
In that home, gasoline stored in a basement ignited after electrical power that was interrupted by the storm was restored.
Crews say two people were burned in the blast and two others were hurt. Their names and conditions were not immediately available.
Clearfield County 911 coordinator Jeremy Ruffner says water was receding in the borough about 110 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, but that a dozen people had to stay in emergency shelters at a fire hall overnight.
Five inches of rain fell in less than four hours.
