First Eggs Could Appear In Eagles' Nests As Early As Next Week
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There's egg-cellent news from the bald eagles' nests in Harmar Township and in the city's Hays section.
Officials with PixController, who run the web cams that live stream the nests, say we can expect to see eggs in both nests very soon, possibly within a week.
At the Hays nest in 2014, the first egg appeared on Feb. 19. And last year, the first egg appeared on Feb. 17 .

However, last year, the eggs in both the Hays and Harmar nests didn't hatch. Experts said that the extreme and persistent cold temperatures of last winter likely contributed to the unsuccessful hatches.
Officials also said unsuccessful nesting attempts happen every year in the wild, and the exact cause is never known.

In 2014, the Hays eagles produced and raised three eaglets successfully. A year before that, they successfully welcomed one eaglet.
