2 Firefighters Injured In Millvale House Fire

MILLVALE (KDKA) –Two firefighters were injured while battling a house fire in Millvale Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out in the 800-block of Reserve Street around 6:20 a.m.

When crews arrived at the scene, flames were shooting through the roof of the home.

Neighbors say the couple who lives in the home left for vacation Tuesday night. Firefighters confirmed no one was home when the flames broke out.

Dylan Roush was on his way to work when he saw the fire and ran to help.

"Massive...like I said, I pounded on the door and you could see a little bit of smoke coming out of the front and as soon as that flame broke out of the back, the smoke that was coming out of the front went from a slight greyish color to jet black almost instantly," Roush said.

While the cause is under investigation, firefighters say it started in the back basement area and quickly spread to the upstairs. Crews were able to knock things down quickly.

Two firefighters from Bauerstown were taken to the hospital with injuries. Witnesses say the two were inside the burning building and were pulled to safety.

"I [saw] them taking the stretcher back here and they brought a firefighter out who was injured from the calf down to the foot," Ashley Gole said.

Both are expected to be okay.
