Fire Destroys Family's Home In Frazer Township

FRAZER TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Fire caused significant damage to a family's home this afternoon in Frazer Township.

According to emergency dispatchers, the fire broke out at a two-story home in the 1600-block of Days Run Road shortly before 2 p.m.

Officials at the scene say the roof collapsed at the back of the house and the second floor was completely destroyed.

"When first arriving, crews came on scene it was burning in the second floor. Roof's gone," said Asst. Chief Gail Callender, of the Frazer Township Fire Department.

He said the location of the fire made fighting it a little difficult.

"Just the heat, the wind was driving the fire," Callender said. "We had a long hose lay, but the guys were able to work through pretty good. It worked out."

A family of five lived in the home, but the couple and their three children – ages 14, 11 and 9 – were not home at the time.

No one was injured.

The family had lived in the home for 15 years and wonder now how they will be ready for Easter.

"Fortunately, they were out of the house – my two youngest girls were up at school – so there's no problem there. Everybody's safe; it's just stuff," said Sam Robb, the homeowner.

There's no word yet on where the fire started in the home or what sparked it.

The fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate.
