Firefighters Battle Apartment Fire In Oakland

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Firefighters were called to an apartment in Oakland on Sunday.

Around 7:50 p.m., crews began battling a 3-alarm fire in the 3000 block of Joe Hammer Square, an area very heavily populated by students.

Officials say flames spread from one building to a building next door.

Firefighters were initially concerned, believing there were five people living inside the building and only being able to find four.

By 8:45 p.m., officials confirmed all occupants were able to escape safely and no one was injured.

One female was treated on-scene by medics.

It is not clear what sparked the fire.
