Firefighters Battle 3-Alarm Blaze In Whitehall

WHITEHALL (KDKA) – Dozens of people were evacuated Saturday morning after fire broke out an apartment complex in the South Hills.

The fire started around 8:30 a.m. at the Canongate Apartments in Whitehall.

Smoke was seen coming from the seventh floor, where the fire is believed to have started.

"These buildings are really well constructed, and many times, if there is an incident, it can be confined to that apartment, which happened today," said Bill Reffner, of the Castle Shannon Fire Department.

Firefighters credit the design of the building with helping to contain the flames.

No word on any injuries.
