Firefighters Battle Explosive House Fire Filled With Guns, Ammo

GLASSPORT (KDKA) -- A fast-moving fire had firefighters in Glassport ducking for cover.

The blaze broke out around 1 p.m. in the 300-block of Monongahela Avenue.

Firefighters ay it started in a garage, and then spread through a wall to the house.

To make matters worse, the garage was filled with an estimated 60-guns, and a lot of ammunition.

"Then I heard ammo going off, apparently there was ammo in the garage, so we all took cover," neighbor Ricky Vazquez said.

John McCombs owns the home and says he is a gun collector, and avid hunter.

"There were about three or four loud explosions from propane tanks from the garage," Vazquez says. "They did one hell of a job man, I have to give it to them."

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
