Feels Like Spring With Start Of Home And Garden Show

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It's a certain sign of spring: the arrival of the Home and Garden show at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

For 16 of the 33 years, Duquesne Light has been the title sponsor.

"This is a chance for us to talk to them one on one, tell them about energy efficiency, tell them about safety, tell them about how we restore power or we trim trees to let them have that communication with us," said Joey Vallarian with Duquesne Light.

The show is a great place to start if you are thinking about making changes inside of your home.

"It might look really pretty on a picture or in a drawing, but does it function in your space or does it function for you," said Mary Laipple with the Design Studio at 84 Lumber. "That's really the thing -- because you may work a different way in a kitchen than someone else works -- so we really try to sit down and consult with people to see how that really works for them."

As always, there are hundreds of companies to help spruce up the outside of your house.

And they would love to do that at Knox Construction.

"Instead of just looking someone up in the Yellow Book, and they don't know who they are going to get," said Chaz Knox. "They can come down here and personally meet me and they see my family -- we take our family down here and get them involved and that's why people really like to see the family owned and operated companies that are here in the show."

And it's a chance for Pittsburgh companies like Goodies Chocolatiers to show off edible creations.

"It's like home for 10 days," said Jeremy Gabriel with Goodies. "We're all working hard. We are here even before the show and after the show -- we are here a couple hours before -- and not counting the time we are using to make and produce the product and keep it fresh coming in. It's a tremendous amount of work, but it's well worth it. It is one of our best shows of the year."

Over the span of the next 10 days, there will be 88 hours of display time when you can come down and see literally acres of material at the convention center. If you can't find it, you simply aren't looking hard enough.
