Fallen Officers Remembered On 7th Anniversary Of Stanton Heights Tragedy

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - It a somber day in Pittsburgh's history.

Today marks the seventh anniversary of the deadly shooting in Stanton Heights that left three Pittsburgh Police officers dead.

This morning, officers gathered at the Zone Five police headquarters in East Liberty to remember fallen officers Paul Sciullo, Stephen Mayhle and Eric Kelly.

Richard Poplawski was convicted of killing the officers during a shootout.

They were responding to a 911 call from Poplawski's mother when he opened fire.

He was later sentenced to death. It took jurors about two hours to reach their decision.

In October of 2011, the home where the incident happened was torn down.

Neighbors say the demolition gave them closure.
