Extreme Cold Causes Temperatures & Records To Fall

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The extreme cold we've been dealing with has broken another record.

According to KDKA-TV Meteorologist Dennis Bowman, temperatures dropped to 9 degrees below zero at Pittsburgh International Airport early Tuesday morning.

The previous record low temperature for Feb. 24 was minus-2, which was set back in 1914.

Last week, we broke more records that had stood for decades.

The previous record low for Feb. 20 was minus-2 degrees, which was set back in 1936 and matched in 1968.

The new record is minus-8.

In Butler, temperatures plunged to 17 degrees below zero this morning.

The good news is that temperatures will climb into the 20s today, with a high of 24 degrees.

We will see an overnight low of 16 degrees as some snow showers arrive in the morning. Bowman expects just a dusting for areas north of the city.

For Wednesday, we can expect a high of 25 degrees and a low of 6.
